2024 Hong Kong E-Prix: Overview

The Hong Kong Formula E circuit is located on the Hong Kong’s Island Central Harbourfront. It is opposite Victoria Harbour. For the third consecutive season running in 19/20, the Hong Kong Harbourfront Circuit was used for the middle of the season.

This lap was used for the first time on 9th October 2016, as the inaugural ePrix for 2016-2017 Formula E season. The circuit has a length of 1.860km and ten turns.

Hong Kong Formula E Schedule

The 2022 Hong Kong E-Prix was shifted to the middle of the season, in a bid to include Asia, in the tour which is an integral part of the calendar. This shift in the Formula E Hong Kong schedule was said to have interested the local government, and the E-Prix requested that a good part of the city be closed off.

Ahead of the 2022 visit, the circuit remained unchanged. Currently, there are ongoing talks about the feasibility of a future race in Hong Kong, particularly the Hong Kong E-Prix refuse to participate on 2022. Now it is in process of construction. With the continuing innovation at the circuit, the 1.860km length will receive an extension.

The Qualification for the 2022 Hong Kong E-Prix followed the regular pattern, as the field was divided into four groups, with the championship position as the basis for splitting. Six minutes was allotted to the groups, allowing each driver the chance to set a single full power. After that, the fastest six would proceed to Superpole.

Jerome d’Ambrosio came into Hong Kong leading the drivers’ pack with fifty-three points. He was followed by Antonio Felix da Costa, BMW Andretti’s driver, who finished 4th in the Mexico E-Prix. Sam Bird got the third position with 45 points and just one-point difference between him and Antonio Felix da Costa.

For the teams’ championship, it’s Mahindra Racing who leads with 83 points, with a 10 points gap over Virgin Racing who comes 2nd, and Andretti (BMW) in the third position, having 64 points.

The Hong Kong E-Prix event also served as a commemoration of the 50th Epix in the history dates of Formula E.

In the United Kingdom, the Hong Kong E-Prix event is one which is mostly looked forward to. For this particular race, it was not an exception, mainly because it marks the 50th anniversary in the world of Formula E E-Prix.

Sam Bird had a late-race penalty, putting him at the head of the championship with a one-point lead above his closest rival, Jerome d’Ambrosio. The third spot was shared by Lucas di Grassi and Edoardo Mortara, having 52 points each.

Envision Virgin Racing emerged top, Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler took second place; Mahindra Racing earned the third one. Venturi Formula E Team which had an outstanding performance at the Formula E Hong Kong stayed in fourth place, and BMW Andretti Motorsport took the fifth position.
